I sit beside the window in mid-November watching plump snowflakes
mound on tree stumps, garden leftovers and tiny branches.
Back in early October, I was thrilled to see the chestnuts ripened and
Wooly Bears on the march. That always signals the beginning of my
favourite fall season. This year, the temperatures were mild and gardens
that I would usually close down, were vibrant with new growth and blooms.

A few other signs of fall had me harvesting seeds, produce, soaking
fruit in booze for Christmas cake, making a fall wreath for the porch
with thrift store findings and cooking fall vegetable delights like soups
and ratatouille.
Bayfield’s Pioneer Park and Lake Huron are amazing any time of year.
Unable to identify this hand-sized fungi. Anyone know it?
15’ off the ground
Have loved Silver Maples ever since Grandad told me about them in my youth.
Driftwood looking like dried bones.
The prolific amount of rain this fall produced a plethora of molds and fungi.

Strange licorice-black oily looking fungi.
These looked like ballerinas in Swan Lake ready to take a bow.

Our close proximity to Goderich’s views of Lake Huron and the Maitland
River provides excellent hiking and strolling all year round. The following
photos were shot in early October and bundled in winter coats, scarves,
hats and mitts, we were still feeling the cold. The views were worth it!
